London: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly felt that batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar could seize the moment inspite of the poor outings in the past at the ‘home of cricket’ Lords in Thursday’s series opener.
Ganguly was optimistic that the first Test against England could end up being the little master’s most memorable Test of his career.
Tendulkar is seeking his first Test century at the supposed home of cricket.
“I am not surprised Sachin has not scored a hundred here,” Ganguly said.
“But I just feel that this could be ‘his’ Test match. He is destiny’s child,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ganguly is the only specialist Indian batsman to score a Test century at Lord’s in the last 20 years. Ajit Agarkar got to three figures in the 2002 Test, but he was in the side primarily as a bowler.
Although Dada’s ton on debut at the Lord’s is one his career highlights, but Ganguly revealed he did not think about being on the verge of a historic moment when he got close to the century mark.
“I only thought about that (historic moment) when I reached my century,” he recalled. (UNI)
