Srinagar: A special investigation team (SIT) of police formed to probe the alleged abduction and rape of a woman in south Kashmir is likely to conduct an identification parade of army personnel Saturday, sources told IANS.

The SIT, headed by a deputy superintendent of police (Dy. SP), would carry out the identification parade of the army personnel in the presence of a magistrate.

“The army has been asked to arrange the identification of its personnel deployed in the south Kashmir’s Kulgam area by the woman,” highly placed police sources told IANS here.

“All the army personnel deployed on duty in the area have been told not to leave the area before their identification parade.”

A 30-year-old married tribal woman has alleged that she was abducted and later raped by two army personnel carrying assault rifles and a radio set on Tuesday. She returned home Thursday.

She alleged she had been held hostage in a meadow hutment for nearly 48 hours by the criminals.

The woman lives in Manzgam, Gujjardar village in south Kashmir Kulgam district, 65 km from here. She alleges she was kept hostage in the Cheranbal forests close to her foothill village home.

Police here said preliminary medical examination has not confirmed any violence marks on the woman’s body. “Her vaginal swaps and other samples necessary for forensic evidence have been collected by the doctors,” police said. (IANS)
