SHILLONG: Union Minister of State with independent charge for DoNER, Paban Singh Ghatowar, has admitted that implementation of the projects funded by the Ministry is not satisfactory.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday Ghatowar said, “There is a scope of improvement as the implementation of projects in the region is not fast.”

Ghatowar, also the Chairman of North Eastern Council (NEC), said the region with its unique weather and topography can do wonders in tourism sector.

“We have to improve the infrastructure for attracting tourists and the matter needs to be taken up with the respective state governments,” he said.

The DoNER Ministry constituted to look after the welfare of north-eastern states is planning to further improve the connectivity in the region as a whole.

“Connectivity is a major problem and we have taken up various projects to improve the connectivity,” the newly-inducted Union minister said.

The Ministry has taken up various projects of roads, bridges, gauge conversion and upgradation of airports, he said.

Meanwhile, Ghatowar said the region can do wonders in the field of agriculture too since more than 80 per cent of the population in the region depends on the agriculture.
