Labourers kidnapped in Manipur

Imphal: Three labourers were kidnapped by the militants at gun point in Manipur’s interior Thoubal district, officials said on Tuesday.

The labourers were engaged in repair of a guard wall on the Chandrakhong Itok river in the Yairipok police station area in the district on July 21 when the incident took place.

The kidnapping came to light on July 23 when the brother of one of the abducted worker lodged a complaint with the Yairipok police station.

Earlier family members of the abducted labourer had failed to inform the police of the incident following threat from the kidnappers, the officials said.

It was not immediately known why the labourers were kidnapped, they said. No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident. (PTI)

Minor boy commits suicide

Aizawl: An eleven-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide at south Mizoram’s Saiha town by hanging in the basement of their residence, the police said today. The reason behind the incident was not known, police said, adding that this is the second youngest to commit suicide in the state yesterday after a nine-year-old boy committed suicide in 2010. Meanwhile, at least 34 people have committed suicide in Aizawl district since January till date, Aizawl district SP Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said. (PTI)

Nagaland Co-op Bank adopts Losami as model village

Kohima: The Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Limited (NSCB) has adopted Losami village in Phek district as the Cooperative Bank Model Village.

According to official sources here on Tuesday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Losami Village Council and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank recently and the decision to adopt Losami village as the Bank Model Village was made during a banking awareness camp organised by the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Limited, Phek Branch.

With the adoption of the village, the Bank would provide various schemes to the members of the village in different sectors like cooperative societies, trade and commerce, individuals and groups, schools and churches, public and entrepreneurs and farmers club. (UNI)

Two gunrunners arrested

Aizawl: A joint team of Border Security Force and Mizoram police has arrested two gunrunners at Tiperaghat in Southern Mizoram bordering Bangladesh on Saturday, a delayed report reaching here said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the BSF-Tlabung police team arrested Fulenda Chakma (18) said to be a resident of Srirampur of Tripuara’s Dhalai district. A 22 mm pistol and ammunition were seized from his possession on Saturday. Based on his confession, the team arrested his accomplice Kukumoni Chakma (25), said to be a resident of Maidasora in Mizoram’s Lunglei district later in the night. (UNI)
