Kathmandu: Facing pressure from opposition parties, Nepalese Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal on Thursday met Maoist chief Prachanda to discuss cabinet reshuffle, peace process and statute drafting.
During the meeting, Khanal and Prachanda dwelt on reshuffling of the cabinet and the latter handed a list of his party members who would replace the incumbent ministers representing the Maoist party in the cabinet, sources said.
Prime Minister Khanal is in a dilemma whether to reshuffle the cabinet or to pave way for a new government by tendering his resignation as per the five point deal he had signed with two big parties two months ago.
Both Nepali Congress and a section of CPN-UML are pressing the Prime Minister for his resignation to pave way for formation of a national consensus government.
During the meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, the two leaders also discussed issues relating to statute drafting process and expediting the ongoing peace process, according to Khanal’s Press Advisor Surya Thapa.
The matters relating to the cabinet reshuffle and formation of a national consensus government will also figure during the CPN-UML Standing Committee meeting due to be held later on Thursday, party sources said. Main opposition Nepali Congress had obstructed the proceedings of Parliament for the third consecutive time on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of the premier. (PTI )
