Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I wish to bring to your notice that AxisBank ATM at Police Bazaar is one of worst ATMs in Shillong becausemost of the times money is not available or the ATM machine is notworking. If you ask the security guards about the problem theirsimple reply is, “Please complain to bank at upstairs.” Aren’t privatebanks supposed to provide good services to the customers? If Axis bankis unable to provide service to the customers they should shut downtheir bank instead of harassing the customer.

Yours etc.,

 Will they get justice?

 Editor,

The Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims were on hunger strike from 25th-28th July, 2011 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. Whether the demand for obtaining Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims will be granted or continued to be ignored is a big question. Christians of Scheduled Caste origin popularly known as Dalit Christians, and Dalit Muslims have equal Constitutional rights on a par with their fellow Dalit brothers and sisters but they have been denied those rights historically in the Presidential (Scheduled Caste) Order 1950, Paragraph 3. This exclusion of people of Scheduled Caste origin who adhere to religions other than Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism from their fundamental rights has caused great concern and has been debated from the very beginning of its promulgation. No wonder the Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims had to resort to the hunger strike. What will be the fate of the Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims is anybody’s guess. It is high time the Central Government took effective measures to address the genuine demand of these sections of Indian society. The Christians and Muslims of Scheduled caste origin should be given legal protection and other educational and employment benefits enjoyed by Dalit Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs.

 Three cheers SPTS!

 Editor,

Three cheers for Shillong Public Transport Service for the services rendered to the people. The politeness of the drivers and conductors make the commuters enjoy traveling by bus. But there are still several things that the Management should take into account. (1) Tickets should be issued to the commuters without forcing them to ask for the ticket. Non-issue of ticket on the excuse of ticket machine malfunction is not acceptable. It is a symptom of corruption. (2) Ticket checkers should be appointed at different bus stops to reduce the high rate of passengers traveling without ticket and also fine must be imposed on the offenders ( 3) Bus depots should be set up in different areas around Shillong city like Mawblei, 7th Mile Upper Shillong, Mawlai Mawiong, etc (4) The buses should ply at regular frequency. The Management should issue a monthly card for students and they should enjoy students’ concession (6) The drivers and conductors should stop only a designated embarkation/disembarkation points to avoid traffic jams in the congested roads of Shillong city. Lastly, the bus service should be extended to Greater Shillong area.

Yours etc.,
