Govt urged to issue circular

By Our Reporter

Shillong: The deficit school teachers have expressed concern over the rise in use of mobile phones by school and college students in the campus.

It may be mentioned here that despite the Supreme Court ban on the use of cellphones in schools it is noticed that on many occasions, students defy this rule and educational institutions too are unable to enforce the rule strictly.

In their meeting on Friday with the State Education Minister Dr RC Laloo, the deficit school teachers under the banner Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) urged the government to issue a strong circular to all institutions to ban the use of mobile phones by students.

“We have requested the Education Department to issue stringent order with regards to prohibition of mobile phones within the educational institutions”, KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said on Friday

“Mobile phones have affected many students adversely and we request parents not to allow kids to carry mobile phones to schools,”he said
