NOTTINGHAM: Sachin Tendulkar was again left stranded on 99 international hundreds when he was dismissed for 16 on the second day of the second Test against England at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

Tendulkar, to his sixth ball after lunch, top-edged a cut off Stuart Broad to England captain Andrew Strauss at first slip.

In all the 38-year-old ‘Little Master’ batted for 34 minutes, facing 34 balls with three boundaries, having got off the mark with a superb back-foot cover-driven four off occasional medium-pacer Jonathan Trott.

His exit left India 119 for three in reply to England’s first innings 221.

Tendulkar, whose 51 Test hundreds and 48 in one-day internationals are both world records, managed just 34 and 12 in two innings during England’s 196-run first Test win at Lord’s. The India great’s next chance to become the first batsman to score 100 international centuries could come in the second innings of this match.

Otherwise Tendulkar, Test cricket’s all-time leading run-scorer, will have to wait until at least the third Test of this four-match series starting at Birmingham’s Edgbaston ground on August 10. (Agencies)
