Kamalpur: The BSF has been accused of atrocities on the Indian villagers along Bangladesh border in Kamalpur sub-division under Dhalai district of North Tripura.

The villagers raised the issue with the local self-government and the administration, but no action had yet been taken rather allegedly the perpetration of the BSF was increased following complaints.

The Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO) officials of Kamalpur unit said they had visited the affected villages and spoke to the villagers concerned over the issue, but failed to meet the BSF officials there.

According to report, a huge amount of cultivable land was fenced out because of erection of wire fencing along Indo-Bangladesh border.

As per the decision, the villagers were supposed to be facilitated in cultivation on the other side of the fence by opening up the gates on demand.

However, allegedly BSF had been obstructing the movement of the farmers of western parts of Kamalpur-Barasurma, Chandannagar and Sonarai villages for farming across wire fencing and tortured them unnecessarily.

”The BSF has issued a condition for the farmers that they will be allowed to move in their land only if they contribute free labours for cleaning and sweeping on regular basis in 103 no battalion camp in the area, which enraged the farmers,” said Narayan Ahir, a victim farmer to the visiting journalists.

Ahir also alleged that at least 15 farmers of the villages had forcefully been engaged for labour in the camps for the seventh time on July 30 last over past two months.

He also pointed out that Bishnu Ganju’s family had been forced to leave the village as he refused to accept the condition of free labour in the camp for farming. (UNI)
