SHILLONG: Dissatisfied by the services rendered by the Meghalaya House at New Delhi, the Ri-Bhoi Youth Development and Social Organisation (RBYDSO) has asked the General Administrative Development (GAD) Minister AL Hek to bring about concrete changes in the functioning of the house.
The organisation has pointed out several loopholes in the current situation of the Meghalaya House, New Delhi which includes harassment of the public while who are denied accommodation on arrival despite being allotted rooms by the GAD.
They have also alleged that the authority at the House disappoints the people of Meghalaya especially those having no connections with influential people. “They are rude and refuse to entertain letters issued by the GAD for allotment of rooms simply citing the unavailability of rooms, but, as observed the rooms are vacant but kept under lock and key for reasons unknown”, RBYDSO president D Malai said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
The organisation has also expressed disappointment over the conditions of the dormitory in the Meghalaya House which is filthy and littered with cigarette buds and empty beer bottles in every corner of the room.
“The surrounding is unpleasant as some occupants use foul language in the room at night causing much trouble and nuisance to other inmates”, the president said while adding that the foul language used by some occupants when drunk disturbs other inmates and pollutes the entire environment of Meghalaya House.
The organisation also pointed out that some occupants even bring in other friends from outside Meghalaya House to share drinks and gamble throughout the night inside the House’s premises.
“The entire scene is disgusting and degrading and brings shame to our community who call ourselves Khasis from Meghalaya”, added Malai.
Taking note of the illegal activities going on inside the Meghalaya House, the organisation met the GAD minister AL Hek on Tuesday to ask him to stop further victimization of the people of the state by depriving them of their basic rights.
Meanwhile, when contacted GAD minister AL Hek said the matter will be taken up in right earnest, while adding that strict security will be incorporated to check the entry of outsiders.
“The need of the hour is the completion of the new Meghalaya House at New Delhi and Kolkata as the small space cannot cater to all the visitors who go there for treatment, business, students giving their examination etc”, said Hek.
He further added that the Department will take steps to ensure that people are allotted good and clean rooms and provided quality service as soon as the new Meghalaya House at these two metro cities are completed”, said the GAD minister.
