SBI suspends ‘tainted’ official

 SHILLONG: The State Bank of India (SBI) authorities have suspended Pranab Lahun, Field Officer after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with a bribery case.

Lahun, who was working in the Loans Division of SBI Main Branch, was arrested along with Sarjit Singh, a middleman, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000. “He has been suspended and his service will be terminated if the CBI proves his involvement in the crime,” said an official from SBI’s Main Branch. The matter has been reported to SBI Circle Office, Guwahati which took the decision to suspend the ‘tainted’ official. The CBI earlier registered a case under Section 120 B IPC and Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the duo. Both the accused were produced in the court of Special Judge of CBI at Shillong on July 28.
