Washington: India’s Somdev Devvarman recorded a comfortable straight set victory over Denis Gremelmayr to book a berth in the second round of the ATP Legg Mason Classic here.

Somdev beat the German 6-2 6-3 in just under an hour to move to the next level, where he will face seventh seed and world number 25 Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.

Baghdatis had got a bye in the first round.

Somdev converted all the four breakpoints he got in the match and saved two chances of his own serve in the second set. It took the 62nd-ranked less than an hour to close the match Tuesday night. (Agencies)
