KSU opposes JHADC move

By Our Reporter

Shillong: The KSU’s Dawki Border Area unit has opposed the JHADC’s proposed move to lay nets in the Wah Umngot saying this will lead to extinction of fishes from the river.

Addressing the ‘Save fish save river campaign ‘ at Shnongpdeng, Jaintia Hills district, the general secretary of the KSU unit said after the withdrawal of administrative rule the organisation will meet the CEM of the JHADC in this regard.

The secretary of Dorbar Shnong Shnongpdeng, Denis Lymba said, “If the council goes ahead with the proposed move the families earning their livelihood through fishing will be affected badly.”

The president KSU’s Mawryngkneng Circle Wanlambok Kharsati said the State Government had banned the use of fishing nets at Wah Umngot, but the Council is intending to let this happen.”

Meanwhile, the KSU’s Shnongpdeng Unit has expressed concern over pathetic condition of the road between Dawki to Shnongpdeng.

The association pointed out that an old and dilapidated wooden bridge at Darang, Dawki is posing danger to the locals there. It urged the PWD (Amlarem Division) to repair the bridge immediately.
