TURA: Frustrated with the State Government for its decision to deploy special CoBRA unit of the CRPF inside the thick jungles of East and South Garo Hills, the GNLA is apparently making an attempt to exert pressure on political groups and politicians to withdraw the forces by threatening retaliatory strikes on them if their demand is not met.

The ‘political secretary’ of GNLA, Bikdot Nikjang Marak, called up media houses to inform that his outfit would not hesitate to target political parties and their elected representatives unless the State Government withdraws the CoBRA units before the 15th of this month.

The GNLA has reportedly threatened to destroy the offices and residential places of the two major political parties in the Garo Hills — Congress and NCP.

The outfit wants the elected MLAs of both parties to pressure the State Government into withdrawing the special counter-insurgency operations in Garo Hills.

Repeated threats of retaliation and pressure by GNLA over the CoBRA deployment is being seen by intelligence agencies as a case of disillusionment and desperation by the Garo outfit.
