The blockade was called by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC). Hundreds of passengers were stranded on the highway.

Meanwhile, the J N Hospital sources announced that all operations had been cancelled due to non availability of oxygen. The hospital authority had requested the bandh supporters to allow movement of vehicles carrying medicines and oxygen.

Bandh supporters, however, burnt ambulances and stopped all movements.

Large numbers of people who were stranded on the national highways mostly women and children tried to reach Imphal by foot as they were facing untold miseries on the highway without food and proper place to stay, however, the bandh supporters did not allow them to move towards Imphal.

Though talks were held yesterday, so far there was no agreement between the Sadar hills demand committee and the government.
