Kathmandu: Nepalese authorities are trying to revive a decades-old murder charge against Indian-origin ‘bikini-killer’ Charles Sobhraj, who is already serving a 20-year jail term here for killing an American woman here.

The authorities are engaged in the ground work to revive another murder charge against 67-year-old Sobhraj on the basis of his confession before the Indian police, according to court officials.

Sobhraj is lodged in Kathmandu’s Central Jail, where he is serving the 20-year life imprisonment for killing Connie Joe Bronzich, a US backpacker way back in 1975 here.

Another murder charge which is likely to be slapped against him is related to the killing of Bronzich’s Canadian boyfriend Laurent Armond Carriere.

The case has been pending before the Bhaktapur District Court.

“We are analysing the second murder case involving Sobhraj,” Attorney General Yuvraj Sangroula said.

According to him, the Bhaktapur District Court is doing the ground work in this regard.

The case would be revived on the basis of Sobhraj’s confession before the Indian authorities in connection with the killing of the Canadian national, said Sangroula.

Sobhraj allegedly killed the Canadian and his girlfriend for the precious ruby in the possession of the couple, who had brought it from India. (PTI)
