2 Manipur ultras nabbed in Tripura

 Agartala: Two insurgents of Manipur based insurgent group- Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were arrested in a outskirt of the capital town on Monday morning.

They were identified as Herojit Singh (26) of Hariram under Thoubal police station and Ngyangon Meiti (26) of Khorai under Porungpet police station.

Based on intelligence inputs, police and Assam Rifles jawans conducted a search in house at Vidhyasagar Chowmuhani, 3 km from the heart of the city and detained two suspected insurgents.

In course of search, two laptops, 13 mobile sets, a digital camera and some incriminating documents belonging to the banned outfit were received from their rooms.

Later, they were arrested by police and forwarded before the court seeking police remand for interrogation. Preliminary investigation revealed that they had been staying there for about eight months with their families.

Though two members of the insurgent group have been arrested, their family members are still in the tenant house.

”We are trying to find out their actual identity and their involvement in insurgent activities in Manipur”, said DIG Nepal Chandra Das.

He said that the Manipur police had been informed about the arrest of two insurgents a team of Manipur police is likely to arrive here soon.

“There real intention of staying here is yet to be ascertained”, he said. Tripura has been a safe shelter for insurgents especially from Manipur for quit a long time.

In the eighties, several Manipur based insurgents were nabbed from Kailashahar and Kamalpur while they were on way to Manipur thorough Assam-Agartala National Highway.

Police said, keeping in mind of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations, the security measures have been intensified to thwart any kind of militant attempt.
