Lokayukta court issues summons to BSY, others
BANGALORE: In fresh trouble for former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, the special Lokayukta court on Monday issued summons to him and 14 others to appear before it on August 27 in connection with a private complaint against them alleging denotification of lands favouring his family members.Pronouncing the order on the second complaint by advocate Sirajin Basha, Judge Sudhindra Rao said Yeddyurappa and others have been directed to appear on August 27.In the complaint, Basha has alleged that Yeddyurappa denotified 2.5 acres in Arakere village, 1.7 acres in Devarachikkanahalli in Bangalore South taluk and 1.21 acres in Gedalahalli village in Bangalore East taluk violating rules.The high court had recently dismissed all the five petitions filed by Sohan Kumar, son-in-law of Yeddyurappa, praying for quashing of the lower court order taking cognisance of the offences made out against them, paving the way for the Lokayukta court to proceed on the complaint.(PTI)
Delhi Metro to induct eight coach trains in two years
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to induct eight-coach trains to tackle heavy rush on the network by end of 2013, the Delhi Metro chief said Monday.Delhi Metro chief E. Sreedharan Friday stated this to the Standing Committee on Urban Development, a report from the urban development ministry tabled in parliament said Monday.”Our major problem today is severe overcrowding in these trains for which we have taken steps to order more number of coaches,” Sreedharan was quoted as saying.”The delivery of the coaches will start in September 2012 and the order will be completed by December 2013. 31 four-coach trains will be converted into eight-coach trains,” a Delhi Metro official said.The Delhi Metro also official said that two busy lines, Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre and Yamuna Bank to Vaishali, will be getting the eight-coach trains.(IANS)
Mumbai oil spill decreasing
MUMBAI:Indian defence and maritime authorities Monday said the oil flow from the sunken ship Rak Carrier has decreased, compared to a day earlier.According to a statement by the ministry of defence here, the rate of oil spill has reduced to around 1 tonne per hour, as compared to 1.5-2 tonnes per hour Sunday.This has been confirmed by an hour-long aerial recce of the oil spill area in the Arabian Sea off south Mumbai conducted by the Indian Coast Guard Monday morning.A defence spokesman said the oil slick is visibly thin and can be seen as a broken silvery sheen extending upto two miles from the site where the cargo carrier sank Thursday afternoon.However, some oil patches have also been sighted as far as 12 nautical miles from the sunken vessel.Two coast guard ships, Samudra Prahari and Sankalp, are engaged in pollution response operations and another ship, Amrit Kaur, has also been deployed Monday.
