Messi to play FIFA friendly in Kolkata

New Delhi: Argentina Star striker Lionel Messi along with his national teammates will play a FIFA International Friendly match against Venezuela at Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata on September 2.

In joint press conference AIFF vice-president Subrata Dutta and CMG vice president Dharamdutt Pandey on Thursday said International Friendly match between the two teams will be played at salt Lake stadium here.

Indian football team members will also present be on this occasion.

Dutta said “This would inspire others to organise more such matches. It’s going to be a historical day” he said.

Dutta said AIFF will provide its full sport in organising this match.

Reports related to the condition of the stadium however, are false Dutta said “the work is in full swing and it will be completed in time and is satisfied with the work. The stadium will have facilities like dressing room, media room and various other facilities according to the FIFA norms” he said.

Indian star striker Sunil Chettri present on this occasion said that these matches are held once in a lifetime and seeing international players will be a different experience.

He said he will attend this match and hope this match will definitely gave Indian football a new direction.

It will be tough for the opposition as Argentina is a strong team and will play their best. The team will play their first friendly match here under the New coach Alejandro Sabella appointed this month CMG vice president Dharamdutt Pandey said.

“We are trying our best and our relation with Argentina football team does not remain limited to one match but a long-term association with them” he said.

The high costs for the tickets initially were Rs one thousand Mr Pandey said but due to intervention of West Bengal sports minister the ticket cost was reduced to Rs 700. (UNI)
