Islamabad: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said his government stands committed to ensuring equal rights for minorities.
Zardari said the recognition and respect for the rights of minorities is part of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) manifesto.
He said in his message on Minorities Day Wednesday that it was an occasion to recognise the important role played by the minorities of Pakistan in nation-building, the sacrifices rendered by them, and the problems and issues faced by members of minorities, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
Minorities form approximately four percent of Pakistan’s total population of over 170 million. Over 80 percent of the non-Muslims in Pakistan are either Christians or Hindus. (IANS)
