Gujarat riots: IPS officer told to use RTI Act
Ahmedabad: The Guj-arat High Court on Friday rejected senior IPS officer Rahul Sharma’s petition against the Narendra Modi government and directed him to approach the appellate authority under the RTI Act for information relating to the ground for the intended disciplinary action against him for handing over evidence relating to 2002 riots to the investigating agencies. When the petition came up before a single judge bench of Justice Abhilasha Kumari, the court observed that since Sharma’s plea seeking to direct the state government to provide him information on the ground for serving a showcause notice is a departmental matter, it does not come under the court’s jurisdiction. Sharma’s counsel Mukul Sinha did not press for the matter to be heard but he submitted before the court that Sharma’s prayer concerning RTI should be heard as it comes under the court’s jurisdiction. Rs 30 cr unearthed from 2 film stars
Kochi: Income Tax officials have unearthed undisclosed assets worth about Rs 30 crore from the houses and business establishments of two leading film stars in Malayalam film industry–Mohanlal and Mammootty. Stating the undisclosed income earned was found to be invested in real estate and assets abroad, Income Tax Deputy Director Eyas told UNI here today the total seizure of cash and jewellery amounting to Rs 2.8 crore were unearthed during raids at the houses and business establishments in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on July 22 last of the two actors. Informing that the investigation was underway, he said a final picture about the real assessment would emerge only after six months. (UNI)
Ayodhya trial hearing on Aug 19, 20
Rae Bareli: The special CBI court hearing the trial of the Ayodhya demolition case of december 6, 1992 has fixed August 19 and 20 as the next date of hearing. Special judge Vishnu Prasad on Friday recorded the statement of 12th witness of senior Journalist Sharad Pradhan. Now on the court will continue its hearing for two days from August 19. (UNI)
