SHILLONG: Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, on Friday, distanced himself from the controversy that has erupted over the police strategy in which a PSO was planted as a mole in the GNLA camp.

Refusing to comment on the strategy adopted by the police, Lyngdoh said the Government has given a free hand to the State Police to chalk out strategies relating to the anti-GNLA operation.

“The Government has nothing to do with plans and strategies to tackle the GNLA. This job has been given to the police,” Lyngdoh said while speaking to reporters on Friday.

“You can ask the police who will be able to provide more information,” the Home Minister stated.

On whether the Government would act in case the police operation resulted in deterioration of law and order situation in Garo Hills, Lyngdoh mentioned that if such a situation arises, then the Government would have to intervene.

“The police are at present carrying out the operations in the right manner. I do not foresee any problem,” the Home Minister said.

To a query on whether the Government would invite the GNLA for talks, Lyngdoh said that the government would have to first examine the matter to understand their demand and their stand.
