Kohima: Nagaland has observed a ‘Musical Evening’ in commemoration of the Geneva Convention, organised by Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland branch.
Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar, who also graced the ocassion, said that ‘Red Cross’ is a noble movement.
According to official sources here today, Head of Regional Delegation, International Committee of the Red Cross, New Delhi Francis Stamm was the guest of honour.
Stamm was accompanied by a host of officials of the Red Cross, New Delhi.
Paul Keen, Co-operation Coordinator ICRC, New Delhi, speaking on the role of Junion Red Cross and Youth Red Cross, said that the movement is a voluntary service movement, which he said is not easy to render.
He also said that the Junior Red Cross movement trains young people in saving lives and grooms them to be ‘leaders of tomorrow’.
He also appreciated the Junior Red Cross movement in Nagaland being carried out in the schools.
Stamm lauded the IRCS Nagaland Branch for its dynamism and reminded that Geneva Convention is a response to the horrors of war and ideals of Geneva Convention are primarily for protection of civilian lives.
Earlier, Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chairman of Managing Committee IRCS, Nagaland Küzholüzo Nienu gave the welcome address. The programme was compared by noted AIDS activist Dr Joyce Angami. (UNI)
