SHILLONG: The State Police has established that the GNLA has been following the same strategy followed by other militant groups to lure the unemployed youth of the State to join their ranks.
A senior police official on Sunday informed that the GNLA were offering between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 as salaries to encourage the youth to join the group.
Through this strategy the GNLA has successfully managed to lure many youths from economically deprived background to join them, the senior police official said.
“Youth coming from poor background are easily attracted to this offer since they need money to support their family. It is because of this reason that many youths from rural backgrounds are joining the militant group,” the official added.
“Even the HNLC was earlier following the same strategy. But after the police managed to crack down on its finance wing, this strategy of the HNLC finally collapsed,” the official said, even as he added that the State Police is targeting to crack down on the finance wing of the GNLA.
