State's per capita power consumption highest in NE

NEW DELHI: Meghalaya has outpaced other states in the North East region in terms of per capita electricity consumption with 675.19 kWh, official data for the year 2009-10 showed.

The per capita electricity consumption of the other states of the region were Arunachal Pradesh 470 kWh, Mizoram 376.99 kWh, Tripura 335.47 kWh, Manipur 240.22 kWh, Nagaland 218.03 kWh, while Assam was at the bottom with 204.80 kWh.

The per capita power consumption in the State was higher than many large states like Madhya Pradesh (602.07 kWh), West Bengal (550.16 kWh), Kerala (525.25 kWh) and Uttar Pradesh (348.37 kWh).

Among the states and union territories of the country, Dadra & Nagar Haveli had the highest per capita electricity consumption (11,863.64 kWh) while Bihar stood at the bottom with 122.11 kWh. (UNI)
