Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar has said that sports should be taken up as a serious pursuit by the youth.
”Sports is not merely for leisure and it should be taken very seriously by the youth,” Rio said.
Speaking at the Governor’s ‘At home’ and State Sports Awards ceremony 2010-11, which was held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, here on Monday, the Governor said that the award ceremony would inspire sportspersons to excel.
He appealed to the Youth Resources and Sports and Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) and the sportspersons for a concerted effort and to live up to everybody’s expectation.
He also said that the two academies for archery and cricket are going to be set up in the state.
He recalled that till date there has been no representation from the NE state in cricket and hoped that one day cricketers would bring laurels both at the national and international level.
He also extended his heartiest congratulations to all the sports awardees 2010-11.
Earlier, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the president of Nagaland Archery Association, said in the ceremony that the DAN Government had launched the year of the youth in 2004. (UNI)
