SHILLONG: The State Government has been urged to pursue the demand for inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eight Schedule in a right earnest.

“We would like to see the Government make a serious effort for inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eight Scheduled ,” Khasi Authors Society (KAS) member and St Edmund’s College principal Sylvenus Lamare said while speaking at a seminar held in the city recently.

According to Lamare, this demand has been lingering with the Centre for quite sometime.

He however pointed out that the Bodo community of Assam which has relatively lesser population compared to the Khasi has managed to include the Bodo language in the Eight Scheduled while also pointing that the Bodos do not even have a single vernacular daily newspaper.
