Coins of 20th century unearthed
Agartala: At least 20 silver coins of 20th century were unearthed from Kamalpur in North Tripura district, official sources said on Tuesday.
The coins dating back to 1903 to 1913 with images of King Edward VII and George V were found yesterday when labourers were digging a pit, the sources said.
Government seized the coins which would be stored in the Government museum here Numismatist, Jahar Acherjee said these were very common coins which were circulated by the British government in India. (PTI)
Four students injured in scuffle
Morigaon (Assam): Four students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JVM) were seriously injured following a scuffle between two groups of students here, police said on Tuesday. A scuffle broke out between students of Class 12 and Class 8 late last night after an Independence Day feast organised at the school hostel in which four students were seriously injured. The injured students, all belonging to Class 8, have been rushed to the hospital by school authorities. The police is still camping in the school premises as tension continues to prevail, the phone added. (PTI)
Rio distributes 18 tractors
Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has distributed tractors to 18 beneficiaries as part of the Independence Day celebration at the Nagaland Secretariat Plaza on August 15.
The tractors were distributed during the flexi-banner exhibition and distribution of tractors and power tillers programme under Planning, Agri and Allied Departments under the theme ‘Agriculture and Allied Sectors’.
According to official sources here today, the distribution of tractors and power tillers to farmers under Chief Ministers’ Corpus fund, started during the ‘Year of Farmers’ in 2006-2007.
During the last five years, the Government had distributed 170 tractors and 230 power tillers.
During the current year too, the Government would be distributing tractors and power tillers to progressive farmers and organisations. (UNI)
Training prog
Aizawl: A two-day training programme for workers under UNODC in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland began here on Tuesday on ‘Strengthening Interventions Female IDUs in North East India.’
Trainers from UNODC, South Asia conducted the training on different projects including female drop-in centres, counselling, distribution of condoms, needle sharing, free medical treatment and refer of patients to ART centres. (PTI)
Paglapahar on NH 29 is dangerous zone
Kohima: A recent study has revealed that cloudbursts had triggered landslides on August 12 leaving a trail of destruction.
According to a study by Department of Geology, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, in August 2002 a largescale devastation took place in the area (then NH 39) and the consequences were indeed tragic with seven slides occurring during the month in two days. (UNI)
