SHILLONG: College teachers of the State, under the banner of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA), have decided to wear black flags and cease their work on Thursday in protest against the State Government’s failure to meet their demands for implementation of the revised pay and payment of their arrears before August 16.
Toughening their stand against the delay in fulfilling their demands, the adhoc college teachers under the MCTA has also decided to cease their teaching duties and observe black flag days on August 24 and August 25.
“We will cease our work for the day and wear black badges on Thursday as the first step of our agitations to be followed by others if there is no positive response from the Government,” the MCTA added.
It is learnt that the MCTA on several occasions have submitted petition to the State Government for the implementation of the revised pay and payment of the arrears for the Adhoc college teachers.
MCTA general secretary Eureka Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the Association is also planning to take out a rally on September 5 (Teacher’s Day) to protest the Government’s inaction over their long pending demands.
It may be mentioned that there are around 500 adhoc teachers serving in the State.
MNTEA strike
Meghalaya Non-Teaching Employees’ Association (MNTEA) will hold a three-day pen down strike from Thursday.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Association said they would continue to go to their respective colleges but they would not perform any of their duties.
The MNTEA has been demanding for the release of their arrears from the State Government.
