Independence Day celebrations in city

SHILLONG: Along with rest of the country, Independence Day was celebrated in R & R Colony by the residents of the locality in a colorful manner. The programme was organised by R & R Colony Welfare Society. The programme started with the hoisting of the National Flag. Around 100 school children took part in an art competition organized on the occasion.

Meanwhile, members of Rotary Club Orchid City, Shillong along with members of Inner Wheel Club Shillong celebrated Independence Day with the boys of Juvenile Home. A song and dance competition, games and art competition were organized for the inmates. Winners and participants were awarded with prizes . A short film for creating awareness on polio was also shown to the inmates. The programmme was also attended by the Additional Director, Social Welfare Department, government of Meghalaya.

The Mookyndur Sports and Cultural Club in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Jowai celebrated Independence Day by organising a cleaning drive in the areas. The drive was attended by the president of the club, D Dkhar and Rangbah Shnong of Mookyndur, N Suting.
