Mother dies in attempt to stop children from fighting

DEHRADUN: A woman accidentally hanged herself to death when she attempted to stop her sons from fighting at Lakkhibagh area here, police said on Thursday. Rejendra Kaur (40) threatened her two sons, aged 10 and 13 years, that if they did not stop fighting with each other, she would hang herself from a ceiling fan. When the children didn’t pay heed to her, she pretended to hang herself from the fan with a dupatta. Suddenly the stool on which she was standing slipped, and the noose tightened around her neck. Hearing the cries of her children, neighbours rushed to the spot and took Kaur to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. (PTI)

 Four top Hizbul rebels surrender

SRINAGAR: Four top militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, including a self divisional commander, on Thursday surrendered before police in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. “Police achieved a major success by forcing the surrender of longest surviving and only active militant group of Hizbul Mujahideen Pir Panchal Regiment (HMPPR) in the state at Kulgam,” a police spokesman said. He said the surrender of the militants came after joint operations conducted by police, army and CRPF in Kulgam and Reasi districts on either side of Pir Panjal Mountain Range. The surrendered militants have been identified as Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh alias Basharat, Bashir Ahmad alias Rashid, Mohammad Maqbool alias Majid and Mohammad Shafi alias Haroon Rashid. (PTI)

 5 jail personnel suspended

Jamshedpur: Five jail personnel, including a jailor, have been suspended for negligence of duty after six undertrials fled from Saraikela Jail in Saraikela-Kharswan district on Wednesday evening. Inspector General (Jail) Vijay Kumar Singh, who visited the jail today, said that five staff members of the jail including Jailor Rameshwar Prasad, Head Warden and three others have been put under suspension. Singh admitted security lapses as the reason behind the escape of four accused and two Maoists who managed to flee after forcing the jailor and warden to open the gate at gun point. (PTI)
