State bags tourism award

 SHILLONG: In what may be termed as good news for Meghalaya, the State Tourism department has been named as the winner of Today’s Traveller award for the most picturesque destination for 2011.

The prestigious award will be handed over by Today’s Traveller, a premier business and leisure travel magazine on its 14th anniversary celebrations on August 23.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister and In-charge Tourism department, Dr Mukul Sangma, the executive editor of Gill India communications Pvt Ltd, Kamal Gill, said the awards are given to recognise and honour the

outstanding performers in the corporate, travel and tourism sectors.

The award ceremony will take place at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi on August 23 which will be graced by Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai.

However, it could not be ascertained whether Dr Sangma would attend the awards ceremony.
