Assam flood: Another death in Dhemaji

GUWAHATI: The toll in current wave of Assam floods reached seven Friday with another death reported from Dhemaji district even as the overall situation showed some improvement.

Official sources said one person was reported killed in floods in Dhemaji in the last 24 hours.

With the latest casualty, the toll has reached seven with total of four deaths reported from Dhemaji, two from Lakhimpur and one from Sonitpur since June 1.

Besides Dhemaji, the other district affected in the current wave of floods are Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Barpeta and Dhubri.

Over 2 lakh people continued to be affected by the floods, sheltered in 18 relief camps.

Bank erosion has been reported at Boshgaon Aujhaguri by river Janali, at village Surendrapur, Polashbaguri, Naughat, Simlutapu, Mazadabri and Gurumarar Char of river Sankosh, at village Gokulkata and Edulkata of river Dwilong and Damra under Gossaigaon Revenue Circle.

Bank erosion at Silbari of river Tipkai under Bogribari Revenue Circle has also bee reported.

Meanwhile, water levels in most of the important rivers showed a falling trend across the state.

However, the Brahmaputra was still flowing above the red mark at Nematighat, Dhansiri at Numaligarh and Beki at Barpeta. (UNI)
