London: A limited edition of Prince William and Kate Middleton wedding dolls has been launched in Britain.
The “Princess Catherine Wedding Doll”, along with a figure of Prince William in his uniform, has been unveiled by British toy maker Arklu — together they cost 100 pounds, but the Duchess of Cambridge’s doll can be bought separately for just under 50 pounds.
From the make-up to the underwear each item has been painstakingly put together by an array of British designers to replicate the originals worn at Westminster Abbey for the April 29 Royal Wedding. Kate comes clothed in a white gown — a miniature version of the Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen royal wedding dress — complete with a Dower and Hall Tiara and posy of seasonal flowers while William is dressed in his specially commissioned scarlet Irish Guards colonel’s uniform.
In fact, production for the wedding dolls began before the Royal Wedding and follows the bestselling Kate’s Engagement Doll, which appeared in April.
The doll maker, Arklu, has said that it would donate one pound from every purchase to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, was quoted by the ‘Daily Express’ as saying, “Sometimes you see these things and you have a job recognising who they are, but on the whole this pair are pretty good.”
The dolls are available at toy stores, including Hamleys in London, on Arklu’s own website. (PTI)
