Mass candle light rally at Dimapur in support of Anna

Kohima: People in hundreds staged a candle light rally at Dimapur town to express their solidarity with veteran Gandhian and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

People from all walks of life raising slogans and holding placards, some of which read ‘We Dimapurians stand against corruption with Anna’, ‘We want revolution against corruption’, ‘We want corruption free India’, proceeded to clock tower junction on Friday evening.

There Coordination Committee Civil Society of Dimapur president RK Nair read out a memorandum in support of a strong Lokpal Bill, which would be submitted to President Pratibha Patil, through the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur.

Naga Council president Savi Liegise said this simple moment of expression of solidarity with Anna Hazare and his noble crusade against corruption through a peaceful candle light procession in Dimapur was the ‘most timely, relevant, historic and important’ for all the people of Dimapur and Nagaland in general.

He described Hazare and his team as ‘anti-biotic’ against the virus of corruption. Meanwhile, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Hokhivi Chishi, representative from Dimapur Women Association and Muslim Council, members of Bengali Hindu Community, Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman Trust Dimapur, Helper’s Club, Hindu Seva Samiti and Midland colony GB K. Sema also attended the candle light march. (UNI)
