Nagaland observes Renewable Energy Day

Kohima: With the rest of the country, Nagaland also observed the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas on Saturday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi as ‘Renewable Energy Day’.

The main function was held at Kohima where Deputy Chairman of the Nagaland State Planning Board Neiba Kronu flagged off a rally in the morning.

The Day is being observed under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). It is organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (RGAUD) on the Renewable Energy Day in commemoration of the birth anniversary of the late prime minister. Among others in the rally were MK Mero, Commissioner and Secretary of Information and Public Relation and New and Renewable Energy and Director T S Angami and Departmental officers. (UNI)

Ganja seized in Guwahati

Guwahati: Over 42 kg ganja were seized from a truck coming from West Bengal in Guwahati on Saturday by the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The ganja hidden beneath the seat in the driver’s cabin was seized after the truck was flagged down near Jail Road, the NCB sources said.

The driver Mohd Kadar Ali said during interrogation that he had brought the consignment from Cooch Behar district in the neighbouring state. The driver was arrested. (PTI)

Nagaland-Assam Border meet

Kohima: Wokha and Golaghat district administrations would meet on Monday to discuss the August 14 murder case and physical assault meted out to nine Lotha Naga youths.

Kyong Hoho Chairman Yansanthung Jami said the meeting has been scheduled to be held either at Bhandari or CRPF Camp, Merapani.

Meanwhile, the indefinite bandh along Wokha-Merapnai road called by Kyong Hoho and other frontal organisations to avoid any violence post the August 14 incident entered fourth day today.

Kyong Hoho said the ‘peaceful bandh’ was called in order to avoid further clashes and warned individuals or organisations not to take advantage of the bandh.

It stated that any such case detected those individuals or organisations involved would be solely held responsible. (UNI)
