SHILLONG: In a daring display of bravery, one Loannis Thabah saved the life of a child who nearly drowned in a river near St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School in Umkor, Pynursla on Friday.

According to eye witnesses, the incident took place when the water level of the river suddenly went up due to heavy downpour and the child, who was playing near the river, was being swept away by the strong current.

“On seeing this, the young man with the help of the villagers jumped into the river and rescued the child,” the eye witnesses said, adding that the youth injured both his knees while making the rescue attempt.

Thabah is currently undergoing treatment at Shillong Civil Hospital.
