Global conference on disaster management

 SHILLONG: The three- day global conference on disaster management organised by IIM Shillong, International Trauma Care and North East Council, got underway on Saturday after being inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukul Sangma appreciated the International Trauma Care (India) and North East Council (NEC) for its role in preparing doctors and paramedics for disaster management and safe Health Care delivery to all.

The meeting also witnessed the launch of Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC) Programme and EESC toolkit for Meghalaya by Dr Meena Nathan Cherian from World Health Organisation HQ Geneva.

Dr Cherian, in her speech, expressed her happiness in the overwhelming  response of State Government to inspire a programme , which could propel local, regional, and national health professionals to focus on efforts to increase education, safety, and capacity in the provision of surgical, anaesthetic, and obstetric care at first-level health facilities.
