SHILLONG: Several prominent NGOs of Ri-Bhoi district will hold one-day office picketing in the district in protest against the State Government’s decision to recognize the Marngar community as the Scheduled Tribe (ST) on August 26.

To intensify their campaign against the move of the Government, the NGOs also constituted a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in a meeting held at Nongpoh on Monday.

“We have decided to hold this office picketing as the Government has failed to revoke its decision to accord ST status to the Marngar community,” JAC spokesperson and FKJGP president Eddie G Kharbani told newsmen after the meeting.

He also threatened to intensify their agitation if the government fails respond to their demand.

The JAC consists of KSU, FKJGP, HNYF and Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CORP).

It may be recalled that on Friday last, the RBYF with the support of the Rangbah Shnongs of various localities of Ri-Bhoi had observed a black-flag day protesting the decision of the government.
