Leopard killed in Assam after it injured 4 persons
Tinsukia: A leopard was killed by people after it attacked and injured four persons at Kakopothar in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday, police said. The leopard came out from the forests adjoining Kakopothar township and attacked the four persons injuring one of them seriously, they said.
Angered by the attack, the crowd beat the animal to death, they said. The carcass was taken away by the forest department at its Dhola office in the district, they added. (PTI)
Top Naga rebel leaders meet
Kohima: Top leaders of ‘rival Naga groups’ belonging to the ‘NSCN-IM, NSCN (Khole) and Naga National Council (Federal Government of Nagaland)’ met for the third time yesterday in presence of the ‘Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR)’ to explore practical and constructive ways towards a shared Naga future.
In a statement here on Thursday the FNR said that in the series of meeting that began on August 20 last and followed up on August 22, the rival Naga groups had forgiven each other and reconciled.
The forum informed that the high level meet yesterday focused on finding ways to take the reconciliation process forward. The general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Rev Dr Anjo Keikung yesterday led the morning devotion and said how the uniqueness of Naga political and historical rights and that of the Naga Christianity needed to compliment each other. Procession demanding resumption of peace talks
Aizawl: People belonging to different political parties on Thursday took out ‘peace processions’ in three villages in the north eastern part of Mizoram adjoining Manipur demanding resumption of peace talks between the state government and the Manipur’s Hmar People’s Convention – Democrats (HPC-D) militants to find a lasting solution to Hmar problem.
Police said that the procession, organised by all the political parties in the Hmar inhabited area, was organised at Sakawrdai, Suangpuilawn and Saiphai villages, all in Aizawl district.
Earlier the talks held on November 11 last year culminated into signing of bilateral Suspension of Operations (SoO) for six months, but the SoO was never extended as both the Mizoram government and the HPC-D began accusing each other on different issues. (PTI)
Nagaland Natl Science Cong from Oct 20
Kohima: Preparation are afoot to organize the two-day Nagaland National Science Congress to be held at Zunheboto town, the district headquarters from October 20 next.
Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto C. Kiheto Sema the event was very important and benefiting for the district and further assured of every possible rapports from the Administrative sides so that the programme could be organized in a benefiting honour. The Coordinator from NIHESW from Kohima Nagaland, Santu Thepa, while briefing on National Science Congress said the programme is to inculcate scientific temper in the minds of an individual. (UNI)
