SHILLONG: The one-day office picketing called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), a conglomeration of four NGOs — KSU, FKJGP, CORP and HNYF in Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday passed off peacefully with most of the State and Central Government offices recording good attendances. Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district M Kharmujai said the office picketing passed off peacefully without any disturbance, while adding that the attendance in government offices was almost 75 per cent. The office picketing in Ri Bhoi was called by the JAC to protest against the State Government’s decision recognise the Marngar community as Scheduled Tribe. Meanwhile, chairman of the JAC Donkupar Sumer said the Committee will wait till August 29 for the government’s response after which they would resort to more serious action in this regard.
