Agartala: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) sent invitation to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to accompany Dr Manmohan Singh to Dhaka on September 6-7 along with Chief Ministers of Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam and West Bengal, official sources said here on Thursday.

Besides improvement of trade relations between Bangladesh and northeastern states, Tripura had been looking for getting opportunity to use Chittagong sea port for transshipment purpose and to explore the potential of trading power directly from the upcoming Palatana gas-based thermal plant with Dhaka.

Along with agreements on Teesta water issues, Mr Sarkar would highlight during his visit the implementation of the agreements in secretary-level meeting in January last in Dhaka, on the framework of 15-year treaties for sharing the water of Feni River, southern border line between Tripura and Bangladesh during dry season.

Though the issues of water sharing had been virtually settled, some differences remain on the percentage of water each country would get, officials here on Thursday said. (UNI)
