Agartala: Raising his voice against corruption, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has asked the people to keep a close watch on those working at political and administrative level in the state.
Addressing a gathering in Melaghar rural development block, 50 km from here, last evening Mr Sarkar observed that the lifestyles of the public representatives, including village panchayat functionaries, changed soon after being elected.
He cautioned the government officials to change their attitude while discharging their duties and made it clear that unnecessarily delaying work and intentionally harrassing the people at public office would not be entertained any more.
Referring to the ‘India Against Corruption’ movement, Mr Sarkar pointed out that the situation in public sphere in the country had worsened due to corruption and as a result, the common people gradually were losing their faith in politicians and government officials, which ultimately affected Parliamentary fabric of democracy. Advocating for strong anti-corruption law in the country , he said there was no other option left for the countrymen but to fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, reports say anti corruption movements have spread in Tripura and surrounding towns of south Assam, Silchar and Karimganj with several groups demonstrating on the street and organising street plays even at village level.
Reports said a construction worker identified as Shankar in Silchar has launched fast simultaneously with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on August 16 protesting against corruption in Assam and announced to continue the fast till Anna decides to end his fast. (UNI)
