Anna supporters take out victory rally in Guwahati

 Guwahati: After days of agitation,protst demonstratins and fasting, it is celebration time for supporters of Anna Hazare all over the country on Sunday and Assam is no exception to it.

In tune with the celebrations all over the country over Gandhian Anna Hazare’s fast coming to an end on a victorious note, people under the banner of Assam Chapter of India Against Corruption took out a victory procession in the heart of Assam’s main city in Guwahati chanting slogans hailing the success of Anna Hazare and the Team Anna in making the government accept the spirit of Jan Lokpal Bill as a tool to eradicate corruption plaguing the country.

The Anna supporter distributed sweets and dance in joy along the procession route while some of them offered sweets to the portrait of the Gandhian Anna in a symbolic way.

A large number of people from all age groups came out of the residence on a Sunday braving the sweltering heat here to take part in the procession.

The Assam chapter of India Against Corruption has been holding demonstration and really hunger strike on the bank of Dighalipukhuri in the heart of the city since August 16 in solidarity with Anna’s fast at Ramlila Ground in New Delhi. People from all walks of life, leading citizens and representatives of various political and non-political organistions took part in the fast organized by Assam chapter of India Against Corruption.

People of Assam, in fact, led from the front in the entire Northeast in expressing solidarity with Anna Hazare since August 16 by taking out processions, organizing torch rallies and holding demonstration in different parts of the state.

Demonstrations and processions were also held in other Northeastern states including Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. In Assam influential All Assam Students Union (AASU) yesterday took out a massive public rally on the streets of Guwahati to lend a vociferous support to Anna’s movement against corruption.

Another influential NGO, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) whose secretary general and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi is in the Team Anna, also organized protest demonstrations all over Assam since August 16 in solidarity with Anna Hazare. Sensing the mood of the common people in the state and realizing that Anna wave has swept the state, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has announced that he would bring the office of the chief minister under the ambit of State Lokayukta and the existing Lokayukta Act would be amended to add more teeth to it.
