Student drowns
Kohima: A student of a school drowned in the Dhansiri river near Zoological Park, Rangapahar here on Saturday.
According to sources here today, around 27 students went for a picnic near Zoological Park, Rangapahar and the deceased was identified as one Talisunep from Jami village and presently resident of Diphupar ‘B’ Village, Dimapur.
Out of the group, the victim along with two other friends went for a dip in the river located near the picnic spot, sources said.
The body could not be retrieved till late evening, police said. (UNI)
NE expo deliberates on challenges of housing
Guwahati: Prominent speakers taking part in a technical session of the ongoing North Expo, an exhibition of real estate leaders, on Sunday deliberated on the challenges facing the housing sector in the region. Participating in the discussion, Association of Real Estate Developvers Associaton (AREDA) president P K Sharma said sky rocketting prises have hit hard the housing sector as far as the common man was concerned. Outling the need for cutting the tax burden, Sharma urged the government to come out with innovative schemes so that the lower and middle income group of people can afford housing. State government’s finance secretary H S Das said public-private partnership is pivotal in the field of real estate development. Indepth analysis has to be made and ways to rationalise the tax system can be mooted, Das said while outling the new schemes taken up by the government in developing the housing sector. (PTI)
Training of IDSP data held
Kohima: A one-day training for Data Managers and Data Entry Operators under Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) was held at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, here on Saturday.
The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, State Surveillance Officer (IDSP) Dr John Kemp, in a press note here today, said that twenty trainees, representing all the districts, participated in the training.
The Additional Director-in-charge of IDSP Dr Neiphi Kire urged the trainees to ensure timely and quality data as it’s crucial to detect and respond to disease outbreaks in the state. (UNI)
NE Baptists Convention concluded
Kohima: The first-ever get together of leaders of Baptist organisations in the entire Northeast region, concluded here yesterday at Jubilee Memorial Centre.
A note from the organisers said today that the four-day long Convention, attended by 135 Baptist leaders from Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal, Assam and Nagaland, representing 13 conventions, over 8,000 churches and about 1.3 million baptised members, gathered and the event was held under the theme ‘Strengthen the good work’.
The programme was organised by the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation and hosted by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council. (UNI)
