Eid greetings
The Shillong Muslim Union (SMU)has wished the people of the state on the occasion of Eid Ul Fitre. SMU general secretary Sayeedullah Nongrum hoped the festival brings peace and prosperity among all the communities while appreciating the efforts of all those who worked for the release of four zakat (religious ) collectors whose charges were recently dropped by the High Court.
Poets’ meet
The All India Radio , North Eastern sevice, Shillong is organising a North East Regional Hindi Poets’ Meet on the occasion of Hindi Fortnight on September 2nd at Seminar hall, St Anthony’s College at 5.30 pm.Vice Chancellor NEHU Prof A N Rai will be the chief guest on the occasion.

St Mary’s School has invited the pass pupil of this school belonging to the Matric batches 1984 to 1994 to attend a meeting at the school hall on September 3 at 1pm in view of the Centenary Celebrations of the School in 2013.

Golden jubilee
The North East Regional Institute of Education is celebrating its Golden Jubilee at Sri Aurobindo Ashram near Raj Bhavan from 3pm onwards on September 1. NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prof A Rai, Director of the Educational Research and Training, LR Sangma, Padmashree Awardee, Bertha Dkhar and others will be amongst the distinguished guests on the occasion.
Training
A four-day vocational training programme for school students was organised by Rotary Club in collaboration with KVK Ri Bhoi, ICAR-Umiam. The programme was inaugurated by Director ICAR Research Complex, Umiam Dr SV Ngachan on August 26. Programme Coordinator KVK, Dr R Bordoloi emphasized on proper utilization of time by the students engaging in vocational enterprises. During the four-day training programme, subject matter specialists of Home Science, Eliza C Syiemlieh and Snigdha Baruah imparted skill training programme on Preservation of fruits and vegetables and fabrics painting.
