Pak to prepare computerised electoral rolls by 2012

Islamabad: Computerised electoral rolls in Pakistan will be ready by April 2012, an official told Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan apprised Gilani here Tuesday about the reforms being undertaken by the panel to ensure fair, transparent and credible elections in the country, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

Gilani was sworn in as prime minister in March 2008.

Khan spoke of the election commission’s Strategic Plan 2010-14 which has been prepared in consultation with stakeholders, including all political parties, civil society and media.

He said computerized electoral rolls were being prepared.

Door to door verification throughout Pakistan is on till September 2011, and that final computerized electoral rolls will be ready by April 2012, the official said. (IANS)
