Agartala: Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangha has urged Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to oppose Communal and Targeted Violence (Justice and Reparation) Bill 2011 drafted by National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi.
Executive Council member of RSS Ram Madhav who is on a tour of North-East India as part of RSS’s nationwide campaign against the bill met the chief minister on Tuesday night and urged him to oppose it on the plea that it was unconstitutional which would ‘destroy India’s fragile communal harmony’, party sources said on Wednesday. Chief minister gave a patient hearing and assured to study the bill when it would be put forward by Centre and then take an appropriate measure, sources said.
Citing the infirmities of the bill, sources said, if passed by parliament, India’s federal structure would be destroyed.
‘FC’s unrealistic assessment behind Tripura woes’ Tripura Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury on Wednesday alleged that the state was plunged into a financial crunch due to “unrealistic assessment” by the 13th Finance Commission. “18 percent negative growth in committed expenditure arose because of unrealistic and under-assessment made by the 13th Finance Commission in respect of salary and pension expenditure by adopting normative approach,” he said. It led to assessment of total non plan revenue expenditure of Rs. 16349.13 crore and post devolution gap of Rs. 4453 crore, he told reporters. Gap grant awarded by the 13th Finance Commission was exactly the same amount against Rs 5494.20 crore resulting in 18% negative growth and the ensuing financial crisis, he said. (PTI)
