Pro-talks  NDFB stages pro-Bodoland protests

Kokrajhar: Hundreds of supporters of the pro-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland – Progressive on Thursday staged demonstrations in various parts of Assam and submitted a memorandum demanding a separate state. Protesters handed a memorandum to the district administration to be submitted later to the Prime Minister demanding a peaceful solution to the Bodo tangle.

The supporters also wanted speeding up of the process of peace talks between the NDFB-P and the government over the issue. Protests were held across Bodoland Territorial Administrative Districts (BTAD) and other areas in Assam for a separate state for Bodos.

Demonstrators staged sit-ins in front of the offices of the district deputy commissioners and sub divisional officers in Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Baksa and Chirang, besides Dhubri, Dhemaji and other districts. (PTI)

18 villages cut-off by landslides in Wokha

Kohima: Heavy landslides, triggered by continuous heavy downpour in Nagaland, have created havoc in many places, including several National Highways and 18 villages under Wokha district.

According to official sources here today, altogether 18 villages in Ralan area under Wokha district were cut off by road following the landslides in at least 60 places on the Wokha-Bokajan Road, out of which 20 were hit by major landslides on the road from Wokha-Yanthung-Meryan-Totsu-Hangkuo-Yankely-Ralan New till Ralan Old.

This particular stretch of the road is the lifeline for the 18 villages under Ralan area. (UNI)

Manipur CM prepares for world tour

Imphal: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will on Thursday embark on an extensive tour of foreign countries.

Official sources said the Chief Minister will leave for Hong Kong today and proceed towards Japan and other Asian countries. He will then tour European countries from September 7 to 11.

Official sources said he will visit Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, France and some other countries. The tour is an official visit to see the developmental works taken up in the developed countries. (PTI)
