AGARTALA: Director, Agartala Airport A Maiti was accused of harassing a physically challenged employee in the work place over the past one year while the Ministry of Civil Aviation was allegedly inactive over the issue despite being repeatedly intimated of the same.

The victim Swapan Kumar Dey on Friday alleged that Agartala airport did not have the arrangement of wheelchairs and chairs suitable to his height and added there was no toilet facility meant for the physically challenged employee in the airport besides conveyance facilities for him.

Dey alleged that the situation had turned worst when he went to join his duty to the designated place on October 5 last as he was asked to use the stair to the Director’s office for attendance, ignoring all previous conventions to send down the register because of non-availability of infrastructure for the persons with disability.”The incident was shocking for me and caused mental agony and subsequently, I submitted a written memorandum to Mr Maiti requesting him to install minimum basic infrastructure for the physically challenged persons in the airport as per the provisions of the Persons with Disability Act 1995 but nothing has been done yet rather he is indulging in putting psychological pressure on me to work in the existing system,” Dey stated.

Following the incident other employees had raised voice against the act of Mr Maiti and a few of them were immediately transferred from Agartala allegedly for supporting Mr Dey.

Subsequently, he brought the matter to the notice of the Chairman, AAI and top bosses of the Ministry Civil Aviation and others but nothing had been done yet, Dey alleged.(UNI)
